Speier gave birth at a Cincinnati hospital, where she and her fiancé tried desperately to keep the birth natural — a vaginal delivery without pain medication.

“I believe in the power of nature and that creation is next to perfect,” said Speier, a 34-year-old yoga teacher. “I knew what I wanted and I had the confidence.”

But as labor pains increased and Speier asked about breathing techniques, the doctor replied, “How do I know? I’ve only ever done two [natural childbirths].”

Today, natural childbirth is a medical anomaly in the United States, so much so that doctors are often thrown off guard by a determined woman like Speier.

A small but growing number of women who seek to avoid aggressive medical techniques like induced labor, epidural blocks and Caesarean sections find they are a lone voice among their friends and doctors.

Giving Birth is one of the most powerful and deeply meaningful life changing experiences you will ever have.

Before you is an opportunity, to embark on your rite of passage and to fully awaken as a woman and a mother. The gift in giving birth is not only the gift of your baby being born into your loving embrace but also one of the rare moments in your life before having your child that you must fully give of yourself and surrender to the life force that is manifesting within you. Bringing a child into your family is one of the most demanding and yet joyous experiences life has to offer.

Hypnosis for Gentle childbirth

“All hypnosis is self hypnosis” meaning you remain in control and only when you allow yourself to go into hypnosis will you. Hypnosis or sometimes referred to as guided visualization is a deeply relaxing, calming restorative experience. Hypnosis is a safe alternative therapy with no negative side effects. Hypnosis is simply an altered state of awareness, just like when you are about to fall asleep, engrossed in a television show or listening to music. Hypnosis works by, by passing the reticular activating system (which, interprets, puts in context and distorts information) in the conscious mind and instead speaks directly to the unconscious mind.

How does hypnosis for gentle childbirth work?

Hypnosis is not about numbing you to the experiences of giving birth. Rather hypnosis is to empower you to trust yourself, your body, your baby by clearing out self doubt, fear and negative beliefs about giving birth and replacing them with positive beliefs. Fear evokes adrenaline which in turn can slow down and make childbirth labor more painful and longer than it really is or needs to be. Self doubt and fear in essence are a state of mind as is faith in yourself and the birthing process. Your body will do as it needs to do to give birth to your baby and more effectively so if unhampered by a fearful mind set. Woman using hypnosis for birth say they did not experience pain but rather felt the contractions of labor as intense yet purposeful and even at times felt no discomfort even though being in the mist of labor.

There are several methods and or emphasis used in hypnosis for birth. Here at Hypnosis for Gentle Birth we focus on dispelling your fears of childbirth and encoring in new empowering positive beliefs about childbirth. Positive birth affirmation emphasis is on your baby’s birth being gentle and with ease. Hypnosis for Gentle Childbirth works with your own naturally occurring endorphins to minimize and or transgress labor and birth pain making childbirth a more rewarding and gentle experience for both mother and baby.

While childbirth is demanding, challenging and at times intense it does not have to be experienced as painful and unbearable. In our society, today we as woman have become so removed from childbirth that we now fear it as it has become the unknown to us. This disconnection has been going on for generations, we no longer see childbirth as part of the natural world but now a medical experience with an emphasis on birth as painful and unsafe. When in fact, for the majority of woman, who are considered to have a low risk pregnancy the natural process of childbirth does not need to be scary or painful with numerous medical procedures but rather nurtured by your care providers. A woman’s body knows how to birth, it is designed to birth. It is when fear increases adrenaline, adrenaline blocks your endorphins that create a more painful and longer experience. Hypnosis encourages you to relax, when you are relaxed, childbirth flows more smoothly reducing discomfort.

Here at Hypnosis for Gentle Birth, we believe in childbirth as a unique rite of passage for woman. A rite of passage that can be embraced or one that can be discarded and overlooked. We encourage you to look deep within yourself to discover what it means to give birth to you as a woman and as a mother.

Why should I use Hypnosis for childbirth?

There are enormous benefits from using hypnosis for childbirth. Mothers who use hypnosis to aid them in their childbirth report greater satisfaction from their unique birth experience. Mothers are far more less likely to describe childbirth as painful or to experience childbirth as painful. 70 % less likely to request an epidural or other medical pain relief. A healthy normal childbirth experience means mother and baby are more likely to have a smoother childbirth. Woman, babies and families deserve to have the best birth that is right for them, one that leaves a filling of satisfaction and fulfillment not of fear and bewilderment. While hypnosis can not garentee you your perfect birth story, it does set you up to having a more rewarding childbirth experience and a greater chance of having that dream birth.

Your extraordinary journey to being a mother is one that will be remembered for your life time, let it be one you want to remember.
